Youth Housing & Clinical Services Programs Coordinator

Position Summary:

SMYAL is seeking a highly motivated individual passionate about youth programing, community empowerment, and promoting leadership and housing stability in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth. This fulltime exempt position coordinates and implements all aspects of SMYAL’s youth housing and clinical services program.  The position will also be responsible for youth house operations and functioning.  This position will be responsible for coordinating, and implementing life skills courses and groups for the residents of SMYAL’s Youth Housing Program, a semi-independent housing program for previously homeless or at risk youth ages 18-24.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the Director of Youth Housing & Clinical Services, responsibilities include administrative, program coordinating and implementation, direct service, and logistics.
  • Responsible for youth house operations including but not limited to coordination of utility, safety, and contacting maintenance services.  Interfacing with venders and service contractors. Responsibilities to include materials and supply orders.
  • Supports the housing team by coordinating and providing logistical support for clinical in-house and community based trainings, including but not limited to schedules, bookings, marketing, administration, evaluation, and event management.
  • Coordinates and implements community events that support and further the mission of the youth housing program.
  • Coordinates and supports the implementation of all Youth Housing programing, including life skills programming, and the coordination of youth and volunteer involvement. Will attend events as necessary; teaming with program case managers required.
  • Keeps accurate, organized records, materials, and documentation related to job functions and tasks, including submitting reports in a timely fashion.
  • May be tasked with administrative and supportive functions of community and clinically based local and federal grants.
  • May be tasked with facilitating a peer support or therapeutic group for program residents.
  • Represents SMYAL at community events to speak on behalf of the agency, advocate for LGBTQ Homeless resources and policy changes, recruit prospective volunteers, and/or outreach to prospective youth.
  • Teams with other departments as necessary and related to job functions or assigned tasks.
  • Will be required to support team and youth in the on-call rotation; about two weekends per month.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications: 

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in social work, human services, nonprofit administration, or related field.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in office or nonprofit administration required.
  • Experience in working with underserved young adults highly desired.
  • Experience in working with LGBTQ youth and youth of color, and knowledge of youth development framework highly desired.
  • Must be resource savvy and able to create and implement innovative youth life skills and community empowerment programing.
  • Must be a strong team player with experience in working collaboratively with other staff, volunteers, youth leaders, and external stakeholders.
  • Must be able to be flexible and adapt to a changing environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. At times this role may be writing intensive.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks/responsibilities well, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be sensitive to issues of diversity, including race, class, gender, sexual orientation, and gender identity, both in the work place and in the community serviced.
  • A valid driver’s license is desirable.
