Part-Time Programs Coordinator

SMYAL is seeking a highly motivated individual passionate about youth programming, community empowerment, HIV/STD prevention, and promoting leadership in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth. This part time exempt position coordinates and implements all aspects of SMYAL’s after-school programs which are designed to provide safe, youth-led programming for LGBTQ youth at the youth center. The programs coordinator will facilitate HIV/STD prevention workshops for youth at SMYAL’s youth center.

Program Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the implementation of after-school programs, including working with the Programs Director to adapt curriculum for LGBTQ youth, developing plans for weekly program sessions, and facilitating training sessions.
  • Works with fellows and volunteers to coordinate outreach for after-school programs, including digital and print advertising campaigns, conducting outreach at local schools and in community venues, and building and maintaining relationships with other community providers.
  • Co-facilitates discussion groups at SMYAL’s youth center and other programming as scheduled.
  • Coordinates outreach and recruitment for afterschool programs. 
  • Ensuring quality assurance and evaluation, and collecting all necessary data.
  • Works with Peer Ed Coordinator and Programs Director to plan and implement outreach events during the program year, including activist camp and events and projects.
  • Ensures all youth participating in afterschool programs are referred to other services at SMYAL and through community partners including HIV, CTR, STI screening, substance abuse services, and Hepatitis screening.
  • Coordinates volunteer and youth leader involvement in programs.
  • Represents SMYAL at community events to recruit prospective volunteers and outreach to prospective youth.
  • Submits required internal and external agency reports in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum associate’s degree or equivalent experience in youth development, psychology, public health, related field and/or experience in working with youth.
  • 1-3 years of experience in working with adolescents required; experience in working with underserved adolescents highly desired.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in office or nonprofit administration required
  • Experience in working with LGBTQ youth and youth of color, and knowledge of youth development framework highly desired.
  • Experience in facilitating youth programs and/or youth leadership programming highly desired.
  • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS, STIs, and HIV prevention intervention desired. Including familiarity of condom usage, PrEP, and sexual health and wellness access and resources.
  • Must be a strong team player with experience in working collaboratively with other staff, volunteers, youth leaders, and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. At times this role may be writing intensive.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks/responsibilities well and work in a fast-paced environment. This position reports to two different program directors. Flexibility is a must.
  • Must be sensitive to issues of diversity, including race, class, gender, sexual orientation, and gender identity, both in the work place and in the community serviced.
  • A valid driver’s license is desirable.

Youth Housing & Clinical Services Programs Coordinator

SMYAL is seeking a highly motivated individual passionate about youth programming, community empowerment, and promoting leadership and housing stability in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth. This full-time exempt position coordinates and implements all aspects of SMYAL’s youth housing and clinical services program. The position will also be responsible for youth house operations and functioning. This position will be responsible for coordinating, and implementing life skills courses and groups for the residents of SMYAL’s Youth Housing Program, a semi-independent housing program for previously homeless or at risk youth ages 18-24. 

 

Position Responsibilities  

  • Reporting to the Director of Youth Housing & Clinical Services, responsibilities include administrative, program coordinating and implementation, and logistics.
  • Responsible for youth house operations including but not limited to coordination of utility, safety, and contacting maintenance services. Interfacing with venders and service contractors. Responsibilities to include materials and supply orders.
  •  Supports the housing team by coordinating and providing logistical support for clinical in-house and community based trainings, including but not limited to schedules, bookings, marketing, administration, evaluation, and event management.
  • Coordinates and implements community events that support and further the mission of the youth housing program.
  •  Coordinates and supports the implementation of all Youth Housing programing, including the coordination of youth and volunteer involvement. Will attend events as necessary; teaming with program case managers required.
  •  Keeps accurate, organized records, materials, and documentation related to job functions and tasks, including submitting reports in a timely fashion.
  • May be tasked with administrative and supportive functions of community and clinically based local and federal grants.
  •   Represents SMYAL at community events to speak on behalf of the agency, recruit prospective volunteers and outreach to prospective youth.
  •  Teams with other departments as necessary and related to job functions or assigned tasks.
  •  Will be required to support team and youth in the on-call rotation, about two weekends per month.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year experience in office or nonprofit administration required.
  • Experience in working with underserved young adults highly desired.
  •  Experience in working with LGBTQ youth and youth of color, and knowledge of youth development framework highly desired.
  •   Must be resource savvy and able to create and implement innovative youth life skills and community empowerment programing.
  • Must be a strong team player with experience in working collaboratively with other staff, volunteers, youth leaders, and external stakeholders.
  •   Must be able to be flexible and adapt to a changing environment.
  •  Excellent oral and written communication skills. At times this role may be writing intensive.
