Estate Planning: Leave a Lasting Contribution

We understand that planning your estate is an important way to provide for your loved ones. It is also a great way to ensure LGBTQ youth always have access to high-impact programming and a safe place to be who they are.

  • Bequests: Leave SMYAL a gift through your will or revocable living trust. Name SMYAL as a beneficiary: Designate SMYAL as a beneficiary of your bank account, retirement and pension plan, or life insurance policy.
  • Appreciated assets: Donate securities (i.e., stock), personal property, real estate and insurance policies.

Talk to your legal or financial adviser to learn more about the ways in which you can include SMYAL in your estate plan. If you'd like to make a bequest, name SMYAL as a beneficiary or donate appreciated assets. For more information about how you can support SMYAL for years to come, please contact Jason Laney at jason.laney@smyal.org or 202-567-3155.

The following is basic sample wording to make a provision for SMYAL in your will:

I give and bequeath to the Sexual Minority Youth Assistance League, 410 7th Street, SE, Washington, DC  20003 (Federal Tax I.D. #52-1394900) DOLLAR AMOUNT or % OF MY ESTATE to be used for its general purposes.

You can also name SMYAL as the beneficiary to a retirement account (IRA, 401(k), 403(b), etc) or a life insurance plan. To do that, simply contact your plan administrator and they can help you fill out the appropriate forms.
