SafeSpace Registration Community Rules:
SafeSpace is an online forum for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning and allied youth aged 13-21 years. By registering for, and posting on, this forum, you are verifying that you are within the age range of 13-21. In order to help us keep SafeSpace safe and enjoyable for all users, you are required to follow our rules of conduct. By accessing and using SafeSpace, you agree to be legally bound by the Community Rules set forth below. We reserve the right to change these rules at any time. You agree to review these rules periodically to be aware of such changes. Your continued use of SafeSpace after changes in the rules set forth below shall signify that you agree to be legally bound by such changes.
Community Rules:

  1. Use positive and affirming language. This means no cursing, swearing, throwing shade, bullying, name-calling, or abusive language.
  2. SafeSpace is a space to talk about what's on your mind with your peers. SafeSpace is NOT a place to post inappropriate sexually oriented material, or to use inappropriate innuendo or vulgar language. This also means no posting or linking to obscene or sexual images, and no using the site to find hook-ups for yourself or others.
  3. Protect yourself and the other members of this online community. This means no exchanging personal contact information, including your E-mail address, full name, home address, phone number, IM name, or any other personal identifying information that could let a reader contact you directly.
  4. Respect the SafeSpace community and the law. Do not post any material that:
    • is fraudulent;
    • is designed to interrupt, or destroys or limits the functionality of, any computer software or hardware or telecommunications equipment or interferes with or disrupts the forum, services connected to the forum, or otherwise interferes with operations or services of this forum in any way;
    • infringes any patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright, or other proprietary rights of any party; including the promoting of an illegal or unauthorized copy of another person's copyrighted work;
    • is offensive to the forum community or to SMYAL, such as content that promotes racism, bigotry, hatred, or physical harm on any grounds and of any kind against any group or individual or which harasses or harms, or advocates the harassment or harming of another person;
    • involves the transmission of “junk mail”, “chain letters”, commercial e-mail, or unsolicited mass mailing or “spamming”, or solicits personal identifying information from other visitors to the forum;
    • promotes information that is false, misleading, defamatory, or libelous, or promotes illegal activities or conduct that is abusive, threatening, obscene, defamatory, or libelous;
    • links to materials or other content, directly or indirectly, to which the user posting such material does not have a right to link;
    • violates a person's rights of publicity and/or privacy; or
    • violates any applicable local, state, national, or international law.
These rules are in place to keep this online community safe. By registering and posting, you are verifying that you have read them and agree to follow them. All posts are moderated by SMYAL staff, and any posts that violate these rules will be deleted. Users who violate these rules may be warned or banned from the online community.

Additionally, if necessary, we reserve the right to notify your Internet Service Provider and the appropriate law enforcement authorities of any violations. The IP address of all posts are recorded to aid in enforcing these conditions.
Our forums are powered by phpBB (hereinafter “they”, “them”, “their”, “phpBB software”, “www.phpbb.com”, “phpBB Group”, “phpBB Teams”) which is a bulletin board solution released under the “General Public License” (hereinafter “GPL”) and can be downloaded from www.phpbb.com. The phpBB software only facilitates internet based discussions, the phpBB Group are not responsible for what we allow and/or disallow as permissible content and/or conduct. As a user you agree to any information you have entered to being stored in a database. While this information will not be disclosed to any third party without your consent, neither “SafeSpace” nor phpBB shall be held responsible for any hacking attempt that may lead to the data being compromised.

By posting or attempting to post submissions to the forum, you automatically grant, and represent and warrant that you have the right to grant, to SMYAL, a non-exclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, sublicensable (through multiple tiers), assignable, fully paid, royalty free, worldwide license to use, copy, modify, adapt, publish, make, sell, create derivative works of, or incorporate into other works, such submissions, derive revenue or other remuneration from, communicate to the public, distribute (through multiple tiers), perform or display such submissions (in whole or in part) and/or to incorporate such submissions in other works in any form, media, or technology now known or later developed, and to grant and authorize sublicenses of the foregoing through multiple tiers of sublicensees, including the right to exercise the copyright, publicity, and any other rights over any of the materials contained in such submissions for any purpose, including for purposes of advertising and publicity on the forum and elsewhere. No submissions shall impose any obligation on SMYAL, whether of attribution or otherwise, and SMYAL shall not be liable for any use or disclosure of any such submissions.
